How to connect

MailPush shows up in Apple Mail as a Microsoft Exchange account. Adding it takes a few minutes on an iPhone or an iPad.

Before you start

These are the values to type in the steps below. If you do not have an account yet, ask for access first.

Server
mailpush.chaner.me
Username
Your Gmail address
Password
Your phone password. It is shown once, after you connect your Google account to MailPush. It is made by MailPush and is not your Google password.

If you have only just connected your Google account, wait until your account page says Connected. MailPush first reads your mailbox, and iOS can refuse to save the account before that is done.

  1. Add a Microsoft Exchange account.

Open Settings, then Apps, then Mail, then Mail Accounts, then Add Account. Tap Microsoft Exchange. On older versions of iOS, open Settings, then Mail, then Accounts.

  3. Choose Configure Manually.

iOS asks how to sign in. Tap Configure Manually, not Sign In. MailPush has its own server, so iOS cannot find it by itself.

  5. Turn on Mail only.

Turn on Mail. Turn off Contacts, Calendars, Reminders and Notes. Tap Save. If you want your Google calendars too, the part Add your calendars below turns Calendars on later.

  6. Set Mail Days to Sync to No Limit.

Open Settings, then Apps, then Mail, then Mail Accounts, then the new account. Tap Mail Days to Sync and choose No Limit, so that all your mail reaches the device. The first sync of a large mailbox takes 2 to 4 hours. Recent mail arrives first, and older mail keeps filling in below it.

  7. Choose the Archive mailbox.

Still in the account, open Account, then Advanced Settings. Some versions of iOS call it Advanced. Under Archive Mailbox, choose Archive, so that the Archive button in Mail works like Gmail's. Under Move Discarded Messages Into, choose Deleted Mailbox if a swipe should delete (move to Gmail's Trash), or Archive Mailbox if it should archive.

  8. Choose Mailboxes to Push.

Apple Mail pushes only the folders you choose, and at first that is the Inbox only. To get push for a label folder, open Settings, then Apps, then Mail, then Mail Accounts, then Fetch New Data, then the new account, and turn that folder on under Mailboxes to Push. The names of these screens differ a little between iOS versions.

  9. Turn off your old Gmail account.

If Apple Mail still has your Gmail account added directly, turn it off or remove it, or you will see every message twice. Then open Fetch New Data. It shows Push for the new account.

Add your calendars (optional)

MailPush can also bring your Google calendars to the Calendar app, in both directions. It takes two steps, one at MailPush and one on your device, and then you choose which calendars to show. You can do them now or any time later.

  1. Turn Calendar on at MailPush.

Sign in, open your account page and press Turn on under Calendar. Google asks for two more permissions. Choose the same Google account and leave every box ticked. When you come back, your account page says Calendar: On.

  2. Turn on Calendars on your device.

Open Settings, then Apps, then Calendar, then Calendar Accounts, then your MailPush account, and turn on Calendars. On older versions of iOS, open Settings, then Calendar, then Accounts. Your calendars appear within a minute or two.

iPhone: MailPushThe calendar settings of the account, with a switch for Calendars. Turn the switch on.AccountsMailPushCalendarsYour Google calendars then appearin the Calendar app.

iPad: MailPushThe calendar settings of the account, with a switch for Calendars. Turn the switch on.AccountsMailPushCalendarsYour Google calendars then appear inthe Calendar app.
    iPad
  3. Choose the calendars to show.

Open the Calendar app and tap Calendars. Each Google calendar is listed under your MailPush account. A calendar that you hide in Google Calendar is not synced, so it is missing here until you show it again.

How far back events go is a setting of your device: look for Sync under Settings, Apps, Calendar. The names of these screens differ a little between iOS versions.

Changes on either side normally reach the other within seconds, or within about two minutes when many people are connected, and at worst within 15 minutes. Questions says what Calendar cannot do.
